There is a feeling in the marketing industry that the principles of the 4 P’s is becoming outdated. This is partly due to the fact that customers themselves have changed (and continue to change) and are not the same consumer they were 40 years ago. Instead of “managing the flow of goods and services from the manufacturer to the consumer” through Product, Placement, Promotion and Price, marketers are looking at a different model – the 4 R’s.
The principle of the 4 R’s include Relationship, Retrenchment, Relevancy and Rewards and looks at marketing as “being responsible for building profitable, sustainable relationships between brands and their best customers.
